Mr R's Decks

About This Section

This section presents some of Mr. R's 60-card constructed decks.

Mr. R builds decks based on exploiting certain mechanics (eg: The Morph Deck), interesting creatures (eg: Deck of the Fae), or alternate win conditions (eg: Darksteel Reactor).

According to Wizard's Lead Magic Card Designer Mark Rosewater, Spike probably wouldn't like these decks as much as would Johnny and Timmy.

While competitive perhaps at the casual level, these decks are more about doing unconventional things than they are about winning consistantly.

For example, The Morph Deck is not only based on the Morph mechanic, it exploits morph to get big green creatures onto the battlefield without ever paying the card's actual casting cost,
() or morph cost (). The Morph Deck has only and mana sources.

The decks are accessed under the mana symbol in upper right corner of the screen.

Each deck has a list of the cards. Hovering over the card name will show a picture of the card at the right. A number in the mouseover text tells how many copies of the card are in the deck.

Click the Info button to display information unique to the deck

Click the PlayTest button to emulate a game test. Run in two browsers for a simulated head-to-head game.

The section below provides information on using the PlayTest simulator.

Future development work: Improve shuffling. Current shuffle just randomly reorganizes cards in the deck. Though this will present a different set of cards with each shuffle, it doesn't emulate a real shuffle technique. Include methods for cutting the deck, a rifle shuffle, and a chop shuffle.

Play Testing

This section explains playtesting decks.

After choosing a deck from the dropdown menu information about the deck will be displayed. Mousing over the card names will display the card.

Click the button to begin.

Start a new game by clicking the button. The deck is shuffled and 7 cards are dealt.

Click the button to reveal the top card of the library. Move the card to your hand by first clicking on the card drawn, then clicking on an open spot in your hand (a spot showing a card back.

As you play cards, move them to a desired location. Cards in the "Creature", "Spells", or "Land" areas may be tapped.

Tap cards by double-clicking on them (two quick clicks of the mouse).

Tapping cards in the simulator serves to keep track of which cards should be tapped. This "virtual tapping" generates nothing more than a visual reminder.

Cards must be untapped to be moved to another spot. It can be tapped again at the new spot if desired.

Special Library and Hand fields are indicated with a colored background.

These include:

The Hand spots highlighted when mousing over the button

The Draw spot, which must be empty (showing a card back) when the button is clicked.

The Move to Library space, which has buttons for returning the card in this spot to the or of the Library.

The button for creating a 'custom' token card.

The Library search area which cycles through the library with the and buttons. Put the selected card into your hand with the button.
